Leopard: A print with sworn lovers and sworn enemies. Diana Vreeland has rhetorically asked ''a world without leopards, well, who would want to live in it''? She was definitely a sworn leopard lover, as we can all understand.
Lately, I couldn't help but notice how much someone falls under people's radar when is wearing something in leopard. More particular, I personally bought almost a couple months ago a leopard jacket by H&M (the one seen in photos). It was in offer, almost half priced, during an H&M mid-sales clearance and by the time I tried it on, I didn't think twice about buying it. It has an A-line shape with just one buttonhole, which gives a strong 60's feel- my favorite fashion era- and when wearing it, I feel like the child of Edie Sedgwick with a rockabilly.
Please note that on a daily basis I mostly wear my leopard jacket with jeans, a plain t-shirt, my Converse and almost no jewellery, which means that I look nothing like in the pictures above. Only at night, I would combine it with a mid-height heel and maybe a red lipstick. However, no matter how plain and casual the outfit, the staring is always there!
So I can't help but wondering myself: ''What is wrong with people and leopard print''?
''Is it only in Athens that people look weird at you when wearing something in leopard or is this happening everywhere, not just in Athens or Greece''? and ''Why most of the times does it feel like others put you immediately on the 'Worst-dressed list' when they see you in leopard''?
To my eyes the ladies below, most definitely fall into my 'Best-dressed list' despite the fact that they are wearing leopard. Have a look:
So, is there anything kitsch in these pictures? Because this is I believe most people's perception on leopards. That they are 'kitsch to the bone'.
Nevertheless, let me hear your own thoughts!
Do you own anything in leopard and would you wear it?
Why do you think people immediately consider you as a bad-tasted person when seeing you on leopard?
Do you think it is because it has been abused so much as in this picture below?
